Bird Watching at Malshej Ghat

Malshej Ghat is an attractive and tropical spot located at an altitude of 700m above the sea level. Malshej ghat is typically a mountain pass. The Ghats are generally covered with green color. Bird watching is your lifetime ticket to the theater of nature. A number of amazing birds can be seen at the Malshej Ghats. A good deal of flora and fauna are reported to be lodging in the Malshej Ghats.

During the monsoons the beauty of this area is accentuated and when it is covered by heavy fog and misty clouds. There are large number of migratory birds from Siberia in this region. The mating dance of Flamingo birds is a stunning experience.

As soon as you step out of your vehicle at Malshej, the first thing you’ll probably see is the mountains with the green cover. The other thing you’ll find is that of the non-stop bird watching. Different Birds are as follows:-

Laughing Dove: The Laughing Dove is a smallish dove The head and back are pinky-brown, the wings blue-grey, and the belly whitish. There is a small white patch on the chin and long white tips on the outer tail feathers. It is also known as the Laughing Turtle-Dove.

Flamingos: Flamingos are famous for their bright pink feathers, stilt-like legs, and S-shaped neck. Flamingos build nests that look like mounds of mud along waterways. Flamingo young are born white, with soft, downy feathers and a straight bill.

Woolly Necked Stork: The Woolly-necked Stork is an elegant bird found in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and SE Asia. The adult has glossy black plumage with blue, green and purple iridescence. Wings and tail are black too. The woolly neck, belly and undertail-coverts are white, as lower back and rump. The forked black tail is concealed by the long white undertail-coverts, appearing white seen from below.
Great Egret : Great Egrets are tall, long-legged wading birds with long, S-curved necks and long, dagger-like bills Great Egrets are white. Their bills are yellowish-orange, and the legs black.
